JEROME — The Diabetes Center Foundation is sponsoring a free diabetes education seminar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Jerome High School, 104 Tiger Drive, for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
There will be general sessions for both types of the disease, as well as breakout sessions on issues pertaining to the two types.
Topics include emerging treatments, diabetes liver disease, diabetic retinopathy, end stage renal disease and diabetes, carbohydrate counting, information on pump therapy, diabetic foot care, celiac sprue and information for children with diabetes. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and lunch is provided. A limited number of free HgA1c tests will be offered.
The seminar features Dr. Keith Tolman, a gastroenterologist; Dr. Ken Wilhelm, an endocrinologist; Dr. Nagraj Narasimhan, a nephrologist; and either Dr. Mike Taylor or Dr. Bruce Madsen, ophthalmologists, as guest speakers.
People are encouraged to bring friends and family members with them. Children 10 years and older with diabetes are invited.
The seminar is offered in partnership with South Central District Health, St. Benedicts Family Medical Center, the Idaho Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, Lions Club and the Dairy Council.
