Hubert makes first successful bareback ride
SHOSHONE - After failing to record a successful 8-second ride in bareback riding at Glenns Ferry or Jerome, a qualified ride was finally made by Dietrich freshman Kolton Hubert as he scored 43 points on Yellow Cat on Friday night. The ride came at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Rodeo arena as the District V moved into Shoshone for the third stop of the high school rodeo season.

"It was my first cover," said Hubert, who is only entered in the one event because "I want to focus on this one event."

Last week in Jerome, Hubert also rode for the full eight but the rider failed to mark the horse out and received no score. Friday, Casey Patton of Gooding followed Hubert on No. 43 and looked to have made another good ride. But like Hubert, he also saw the red flag lying on the ground signifying he had missed the horse out and was not given a score.

"I thought I had a ride," said the disappointed Patton.

Montana Barlow of Valley and his bull, E33 were scored at 67 points giving Barlow his third win in the event. Barlow also rode the same bull for 65 points last week in Jerome.

It was reported last week in error that Barlow had won the event three times. At Glenns Ferry, Barlow won Friday night and Cy Eames of Gooding won Saturday night with Barlow coming in second. Barlow picked up his second win last Friday in Jerome.) The top two spots in both the girls and boys all-around standings continue to change.

On the boys side, Rob Webb of Wendell (64) led by two points over Tyler Wines of Gooding (62) after Jerome. On Friday, Webb had a winning time of 11.93 seconds in calf roping to gain 10 points. Wines placed fifth in the same event and was third in steer wrestling, picking up 14 points and grabbing the top spot and a two-point lead in the all-around.

Cheyanna Robinson of Gooding added 27 points by winning barrel racing and pole bending and placing fourth in goats. Jori Fleming of Wendell finished second in goats and was 10th in poles for 10 points. When all points were totaled, the team roping partners were in a dead tie for the top spot at 114 points.

There were only four calves roped in breakaway roping. Hailey Turner of Gooding registered a 4.34 to win and Kassandra Hall of Valley was close behind at 5.0. Katie Hall of Valley (15.21) and Jill Georgio of Jerome (20.39) followed.

In goat tying. Hall won with a time of 9.42 seconds followed by Fleming in second, Jamie Lancaster of Valley was third and Robinson fourth.

Rusty Gill was only one of three cowboys, all from Gooding, to register a time in steer wrestling with a 7.39. Jack Stevens finished second and Wines third.

There were three team roping times recorded with Cy Eames and Justin Parke of Gooding first at 9.41 seconds, Dusty Vader of Hagerman and Zach Bay of Wendell second and Dexter Dotson of Gooding and Gary Kuhn of Jerome were third.

There were no qualified rides in saddle bronc riding.
