Parenting classes

"Active Parenting Now" classes, 7 to 9 p.m., Mondays, this week through Dec. 10, in Room 134 at the College of Southern Idaho's Aspen Building.

Parents will learn to cope with topics including drugs, violence and sex, and to defuse power struggles with their children, stimulate healthy independence as their children grow, and encourage children to be their best without imposing unrealistic expectations, class organizers say. Instructor Kacee O'Connor will use videos from parenting classes with Dr. Michael Popkin.

Flu shot clinics

St. Benedicts Family Medical Center will hold flu shot clinics in Jerome and Wendell.

Clinics will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Nov. 16 at Fifth Avenue Clinic, 115 Fifth Ave. W. in Jerome; and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Wendell Clinic, 280 E. Main.

About back injuries

"Back School," a course on preventing and treating back injuries, 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional's Rehabilitation Services, 560 Shoup Ave. W. in Twin Falls.

The class will include information on basic spine anatomy, common injuries and diseases that lead to back pain, as well as instructions in posture and body mechanics to protect the spine and prevent injury. Cost is $25. To register: 737-2126.

Learn CPR

"Heartsaver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation" class, 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, in the Sage Room at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional's Education Center, 588 Addison Ave. W. in Twin Falls.

Under the guidelines of the American Heart Association, the class includes emergency procedures for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, chest compression and choking response for adults and infants.

Cesarean childbirth class, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, in the lobby at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional's downtown campus, 660 Shoshone St. E. in Twin Falls.

Topics include cesarean deliveries, non-conforming labors, pain management and hospital procedures. Wear comfortable clothing; bring two pillows and, if possible, a support person. Free. Preregistration required: 732-3148.

Learn CPR/first aid

First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes will be offered in November at the College of Southern Idaho:

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday.

• Combined CPR and first aid, 6 to 11 p.m. Nov. 14.

• CPR for health care providers, 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 28.

The classes are beginning and refresher courses for the public, health care providers and others whose jobs require them to have or to update their lifesaving skills. Cost is $25 per class or $40 for both CPR and combined CPR/first aid classes. Arrangements can be made for classes to be brought to service groups, businesses or other organizations. The class will include instruction on wellness of the mother, labor and delivery process with relaxation and breathing techniques, care of the postpartum mother and care of the newborn including breast-feeding and bottle feeding; and a video tour of the Women's and Infant Center. Wear comfortable clothing; bring two pillows and, if possible, a support person.
