Teen immunizationsSouth Central Public Health District and United Way of South Central Idaho will offer free immunizations this week for ages 12 to 18 at Health District offices.
Organizers say the focus of the immunization clinic is to ensure teens are up-to-date on their Tdap (adult tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), hepatitis A and B, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), meningitis and chickenpox. The immunizations do not include HPV (cervical cancer vaccine). Those interested in HPV vaccine can schedule an appointment during regular immunization clinic hours.
The free clinics are from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Health District offices and are by appointment only:

Instruction includes wellness of the mother; labor and delivery process with relaxation and breathing techniques; care of the postpartum mother and care of the newborn including breast-feeding and bottle feeding; and a video tour of the Women's and Infant Center. Arthritis managementA six-week arthritis management course to help people take control and manage their arthritis, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, this week through May 1, in the cafeteria at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
Daralyn Moss and Joyce Lindstrom will discuss the facts about arthritis, pain and fatigue management, exercise and nutrition tips, relaxation, sleep and stress management, self-help principals, managing medications and how to evaluate alternative treatments.

Tobacco cessation
American Cancer Society's "Fresh Start" program to help adults quit using tobacco products; six-class session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, April 7 through April 28, in the Sunflower Room at St. Luke's Magic Valley's Education Center, 595 Addison Ave. W. in Twin Falls. No class will be held April 21.
"Fresh Start" builds skills to help reduce and eventually end tobacco use: communicate better, handle stress, make decisions, set goals, eat healthy and exercise. The program is sponsored by South Central Public Health District and St. Luke's Magic Valley.

Health fairSt. Benedicts Family Medical Center's Health Fair is scheduled for April at the Jerome Recreation District, 2032 S. Lincoln. The fair will be held 6-9:30 a.m. April 15-17 for the blood draws and 8-11 a.m. April 26 for educational opportunities, blood pressure checks and lab results.
Blood tests will be available for the following:
• Coronary risk, $15 (HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride).
• Thyroid/TSH, $10 (to determine if too little or too much thyroid hormone).
• HgA1C, $25 (glycohemoglobin; assesses glucose control in diabetic patients).
• Thyroid function/free T4, $20 (tests the functional amount of T4).
• Blood count, $10 (detects infections, anemia and other blood disorders).
• Metabolic panel, $10 (14 chemistry tests including blood sugar, kidney and liver function, and calcium).
• Prostatic specific antigen, PSA, $15 (detects prostate cancer in its earliest stages). Recommended for males 40 and over and with a family history of prostate cancer or over 50 with no history - should be done in conjunction with a physician's exam of the prostate.
• Iron, $5 (assesses anemia).
