Bruin baseball nets another region sweep

<$t-1h$z$f$>Staff reports

Braden Box used his position as Twin Falls High's leadoff hitter to great effect, banging two doubles and reaching base six times in eight plate appearances to lead the Bruins to a doubleheader sweep of host Idaho Falls on Friday, winning 7-4 and 10-2.

Box's ability to get on base helped Twin Falls (17-3, 6-0 Region Four-Five-Six) get out to a quick start in both games, and the Bruins' pitching shut the door on Idaho Falls in both games. The Tigers opened their scoring in the fourth inning of both games when Twin Falls was already well in front.

"Box sets the tone and did really well for us today, he's pretty much the catalyst for our team," said Twin Falls coach Mike Federico. "We get out to a good start, and our pitching has been so good, so that helps maintain the tone of the game once we get a couple of runs and our pitcher goes out and shuts them down. That makes a big difference."

Jacob Coats went the distance in the first game, and Nick Yergensen and Kasey Jeroue combined to nail down the nightcap. Bo Folkinga belted his third homer of the season in the second game.

The Bruins have but one conference doubleheader remaining, at home against Skyline as they look to run the region table. They have yet to lose to Idaho opposition on the season, but Federico said that wasn't necessarily indicative of his team's possible status as a favorite.

"We don't really pay attention to the other teams," he said. "But we're feeling pretty good. We know if we play to potential we'll do OK."

Twin Falls is at Minico Thursday.
