Police catch tool, cheese thieves
By Laurie Welch Staff writer
BURLEY - Police snagged three suspects in connection with the disappearance of $2,200 in tools and $8 in cheese taken in separate incidents June 21 in Burley.
Rudolph Lynn Hoch-strasser, 21, of Twin Falls was arrested along with two male juveniles after a resident reported three men crouched behind a white van on East Fifth Street, according to a Cassia County sheriff's report.
The van, belonging to Darrell Ross, had been broken into and several tools including drills, battery chargers, hammers and drill bits along with a laser level were missing.
Police captured one of the juveniles, who was identified by the resident reporting the suspicious activity, near the scene. The juvenile admitted to stealing gas from the vehicle and was placed under arrest. He later identified the house where the other suspects were located.
The second juvenile let police into the house to talk and he and Hochstrasser were both arrested.
They admitted to police that while they were stealing gas from the van they saw an open door on the vehicle and stole the tools. They also admitted to swiping a block of yellow and a block of white cheese from John's Market earlier in the evening, the report said.
Charges are pending for all three suspects, according to the Cassia County prosecutor's office.
The tools were recovered from a bedroom in the house by police and returned to Ross. The cheese, however, was not recovered.
