Second West Nile case found in Magic Valley

A second probable human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in the Magic Valley, health officials announced Wednesday morning.

Signs of the virus showed in an adult male in his 60s from Jerome County, according to a news release from the South Central Public Health District. The man is recovering and was not hospitalized.

Four out of five people infected with West Nile do not show symptoms. However, people with symptoms may experience fever, headaches, body aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, eye pain and sometimes swollen lymph glands or a skin rash. Symptoms typically occur 3 to 14 days after the bite of an infected mosquito. More severe infections may involve the central nervous system.

Health officials continued to urge the public to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Steps include draining any standing water that might produce mosquitoes, wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors and using insect repellent. Mosquitoes swarm most often at dawn and dusk. Door and window screens should be in good condition to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

People experiencing symptoms of West Nile should contact their local health care provider. For more information: www.phd5.idaho.gov or www.westnile.idaho.gov.

Buhl's Living Liberally has new name

Buhl's Living Liberally group has changed its name to Common Grounds.

"This reflects a more open attitude for new ideas and inclusion of everyone for the purpose of educating and finding solutions to our worlds' problems," said David Blaszkiewicz, Democrat precinct captain for District IV.

The meetings, which began in June, have also been rescheduled. Common Grounds will now take place from 7 to 9 p.m., the last Thursday of each month at the Cosmic Jolt, located at 120 Broadway Ave. S. in Buhl.

This month, however, the meeting will be held one week earlier, as to not be in conflict with the Twin Falls County Fair.

Individuals, regardless of political affiliation are invited to attend the meeting at 7 tonight at the Cosmic Jolt.

The Twin Falls Drinking Liberally chapter will continue to meet at 7 p.m. every first Wednesday of the month–at Pandora's Bakery located at 516 Hansen St. S.
