Twin Falls man recovering from assault in Arizona
Graham Stanley of Twin Falls walked into the cafeteria of an Arizona hospital on Tuesday and ate a bacon cheeseburger and fries.

For his father, Graydon Stanley, it's another sign that his son is well on his way to recovery following an assault on Sept. 12 near Arizona State University in Tempe.

"It's been nothing short of miraculous," said Graydon Stanley, also the dean of students at the College of Southern Idaho.

The attack initially had left 23-year-old Graham Stanley in critical condition with brain injuries. He was moved to the rehabilitation floor of the hospital on Friday and has started therapy, his father said.

Graham, a Twin Falls High School graduate and former Bruin basketball player, is now able to walk unassisted and talk.

On Tuesday, Graham was outside, where his therapist had him walk over grass and uneven ground. "Everything has been on a fast track," Graydon Stanley said.

Graham has also started working on math and looking up information in phone books as part of his therapy. The father was reminded of his son's progress on Tuesday when he watched him carry a tray in the cafeteria.

"He has been so determined," Graydon Stanley said, adding that he appreciates the community's support. "We are just really optimistic."

Until Monday, Graham had to go by a code name in the hospital to protect his identity because of the assault. Graham and another victim were robbed and assaulted by three men in an attack motivated by aggression, according to Tempe police.

Graham and Nick Deeds, 23, were headed home on foot but expecting a ride during their walk and flagged down a Jeep, police said. The suspects in the Jeep thought they were gesturing aggressively and turned around and initiated the attack, police said.

The two victims were allegedly kicked when they were down and their wallets, $6 in cash and a cell phone were taken, according to the Tempe Police Department.

Three male suspects were each arrested on two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated robbery, felonies. The men are: Jovi Lemusu, 18, Sunia Tukia, 18, and Gavin Lemusu, 20, according to police. Also arrested was Amber Van Dine, 20, for theft of a credit card, according to police.
