Rupert radio host Reed broadcasts from warmer climate
You've likely heard of remote broadcasting, but rarely this remote ...

Benjamin Reed, an on-air personality for Rupert's Spanish-language KTFA-AM, has moved to Mexico and will do his shows from San Miguel de Allende, a city of 80,000 in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato ...

Reed, a 38-year-old Arizona native, moved south of the border because his fiancee was having trouble getting a visa to enter the United States ... They'll be married in Mexico City on Dec. 5 ...

"What a great opportunity to make lemonade out of a sour situation," Reed said ... "As far as I know, Lee Family Broadcasting and KFTA will be the only station in the Northwest with its own full-time correspondent in Mexico, and I come up the winner ... I get to live in a resort town, get married and enjoy a culture that I dearly love." ...

Reed - who became fluent in Spanish during a Mormon mission to Argentina - will also do daily news broadcasts on Lee's English-language stations, KKMV, KZDK and KBAR.

Under the direction of Kim Lee, Reed founded KFTA in 1999 ... The station celebrated his ninth year on the air Nov. 1 ... Reed has worked in both English and Spanish broadcasting for 23 years ...

Reed's job as program director at KFTA will be filled by Rosie Juarez ... She began her career more than 20 years ago at KAYT, the predecessor of KFTA, playing regional Mexican tracks during limited weekend programming ... Juarez has been with the station since 2000 ...

TWIN FALLS' own Joyce Guyer, a soprano who sang leading roles in more than 190 performances over 16 seasons with New York City's Metropolitan Opera, was recently hired by the University of Washington as an assistant professor of voice in the School of Music ...

Guyer, 55, grew up in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High ... Her father, Max, was the College of Southern Idaho's first librarian, and her mother owned a greeting service ...

She caught the theater bug as a girl when she auditioned for a Dilettantes' production, then studied under local drama instructor Brad Hickerson and Twin Falls voice teacher Marty Mead ... Guyer learned the basics of music at Twin Falls High, studying under Richard Smack ...

After earning a music degree at Arizona State University, Guyer's big break came in 1981 when she was named a finalist in the National Metropolitan Opera Auditions ...
