The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued a flash flood watch this morning for the central Idaho mountain region, Sawtooth Mountains and Big and Little Wood River regions, due to heavy rainfall that hit the area. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

The region includes the Castle Rock burn area that was hit by wildfires last summer and includes the cities of Stanley, Clayton, Hailey, Ketchum, Bellevue, Arco, Challis and Mackay.

The area was hit by moderate to heavy rainfall and another round of storms is expected later today and tonight. Areas that received heavy rains in the past 24 hours and recent days will have soils that are saturated, which could lead to runoffs and floods.

People are warned not to drive into the areas and find an alternate route.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding and possible mudslides or debris. A flash flood warning means those conditions have developed.
