Mrs. Idaho pageant seeks contestants
The 34th Mrs. Idaho America Pageant is seeking Mrs. Twin Falls County to compete at the 2010 Mrs. Idaho America pageant, held April 23-24 at Capital High School in Boise.
The program recognizes Idaho’s married women, with the winner competing in the Mrs. America Pageant in September 2010.
According to a Mrs. Idaho press release, delegates must be of good moral character, married, at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and an Idaho resident. Competition includes a personal interview, physical fitness and eveningwear category.

CSI welding program holds fall auction
Students in the College of Southern Idaho Welding Program will hold their fall semester auction starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Room 105 of CSI’s Desert Building. The students have created nearly 100 items for the sale, including wall art, coat racks, disc cutouts and more. All proceeds from the event will benefit the CSI Welding Club.
Refreshments will be available and anyone who wishes to tour the welding lab or find out more about the CSI Welding Program is welcome to tour the facility.

East End Providers benefit nears
The South Hill Saloon, on U.S. Highway 30 in Hansen, is hosting the 13th annual East End Providers Benefit, starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Pool tournament registration will begin at 12:20 p.m., with games starting at 1:30 p.m. Texas Hold’em will start at 3 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. silent auction.
Auction donations can be left at the saloon or Hansen City Hall. All proceeds go to East End Providers.

Artisans’ Holiday Show starts today
Ascension Episcopal Church and the Magic Valley Arts Council will host the Artisans’ Holiday Show from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, at the church, 371 Eastland Drive N., Twin Falls.
Artisans will feature a variety of handmade arts including jewelry, pottery, photography, woodwork, fused glass and more. Cookies by the Pound will feature more than 25 different types of cookies.
A raffle held at 3 p.m. Saturday, with more than 35 items, will benefit Neighbors in Need.
Proceeds will benefit Ascension Church and the Magic Valley Arts Council. A $1 admission fee will support the Neighbors in Need program.
Armenian Genocide memorial dedicated Saturday
The Armenian Memorial Project’s Armenian Genocide memorial and tree will be installed in Twin Falls City Park at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The plaque will include text for the remembrance and acknowledgement of Armenian immigrants’ contribution to the Twin Falls community. The public is welcome to attend.
The project has funded the project on its own, and donations will be welcomed at Saturday’s installation. Money left over after the installation will be donated to the Twin Falls Public Library to purchase books related to the subject.
The memorial was approved by the Twin Falls City Council on Sept. 28.
Parrot Heads meet Tuesday
The Southern Idaho Parrot Head Club will meet for a 7 p.m. Tuesday social hour at O’Dunken’s in downtown Twin Falls.
According to club officials, the nonprofit social club will “party with a purpose.”
Teddy bear round-up runs through Dec. 11
Members of the community are asked to donate new teddy bears in collection boxes at the Twin Falls Motel 6, at 1472 Blue Lakes Blvd. N., to help local law enforcement officials, firefighters and social services in the Great Teddy Bear Roundup.
Now in its second year, the roundup collects new small to medium-sized teddy bears used in times of need to comfort children experiencing stressful or traumatic situations.
Police and fire departments donate the toys to hospitals, child protective agencies or to hand out to children they encounter everyday. The local campaign was part of a national effort that brought in 10,000 stuffed animals. The motel chain will donate $6,000 to the local fire or police department of the motel location that collects the most bears.

Book Fair senior project nears
Filer High School senior Haley Peterson will hold a book fair as part of her senior project at the Twin Falls Barnes & Noble, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 2.
The fair will support the Filer High School library. Entertainment will be provided and vouchers will be available at various filer businesses, at FHS and from Peterson.

CSI hosts World Aids Day event
The College of Southern Idaho Wellness program and CSI Community Service Council will partner with the South Central Public Health District to sponsor the second annual World AIDS Day event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1, in CSI’s Student Union building.
Free rapid HIV testing with results and counseling will be offered on campus and at off-campus centers as well.The event will feature displays, information, products and testing. A presentation at noon in the Student Union Building’s fireside room will provide for a question-and answer-session.
There will be free refreshments and door prizes.Donations will be accepted to help fund testing and treatment options.

Filer Council holds tower hearing
The Filer City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1, to consider an amendment to city code to permit lattice towers as wireless communications facilities within nonresidential zones.
The meeting will be held at Filer City Hall, 300 Main St.
Lattice towers prohibited under existing code. The amendment would change that and increase their maximum height from 100 feet to 160 feet.
Copies for the application may be inspected prior to the meeting from 7 a.m. to noon and 1 to 6 p.m. weekdays at the Filer City Hall.
